The course instructor and developer, Justine Crane has been actively studying and formulating specifically for perfume since 2003, and actively making and selling scented natural handmade soaps, balms, butters, etc, since 1996. Justine is self-taught and has many years of experience successfully formulating for soaps, butters, balms, bombs, melts, and oil-based perfumes. In October 2007, dedicated and interested in meeting other natural perfumers Justine started a study group called Black Nails, she was joined by two delightful women who were as interested in honing their perfumery skills as she was herself, They spent over a year intensively studying Jean Carles, Edward Sagarin, Poucher, Verrill, Arctander, and obscure catalogues such as the Buyer's Guide & Cyclopedia for Soaps, Perfumery, and Cosmetics, circa 1938. They conducted trials, shared formulas, evaluated essences and shared insights -- it was a groundbreaking educational group they created together. In 2007 Justine opened her shop and began selling perfumes, soaps and natural cosmetics. The previous year, in 2006, Justine started Le Parfumeur Rebelle, an online education and resource site to help novice Natural Botanical Perfumers access information and educational tools to help them in their endeavours. Justine wrote and developed the first online course for The Natural Perfume Academy in 2008 and over the next year tested it through the first pilot course at the academy. Justine has been teaching at the academy since, perfecting and refining the course to suit her students' requirements to learn.  Ms Crane has also written several books and workbooks on natural perfumery and related topics. Two of these books (Working the Bench 1 and 2) have been translated into Portuguese and published by Laszlo.

Since it's beginning The Natural Perfume Academy has seen many gifted perfumers finishing to become successfully established perfumers in their own right as well as now having a strong international community of students and graduates to network and source ethical suppliers. Our graduates voluntarily mentor our new students as they study and learn.
